Asked October 07, 2018, 2:59 PM EDT

Went to plant store asking for something to help struggling boxwoods. When I described condition, they feared it maybe boxwood blight and suggested I reach out to you.

Expert Response

The black lesions on the stems and defoliation from the bottom up are characteristic symptoms of boxwood blight. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease at this time. All you can do is remove all of the plant material and dispose of it. We do not recommend re-planting boxwoods in the same location. Sweetbox and Pachysandra are also susceptible to this disease. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/boxwood-blight
