China Holly Disease #481477

Asked August 28, 2018, 5:34 PM EDT

This is another example of damage to China Holly in Olney, Maryland. At first, I thought the lost of leaves was caused by deer. Seems to have started last fall. There are an occasional spider web or two. These plants are adjacent to American Boxwood. 0667.jpg large spot on plant 0671.jpg apparent scale on branches 0672.jpg more bare branches. What treatment do you recommend?

Montgomery County Maryland

Expert Response

As in our previous reply, we think this is a root decline problem. There is no treatment for it, unfortunately. All you can do is prune out dead branches. Prune down to where you see healthy wood.
