Black walnut tree - fungus? #481155

Hello, We have 5 black walnut trees in our front yard. A branch just fell down from one and we see a massive growth - fungus? - on it. Looking up at the other trees, we see it on branches on the other 4 as well. Eek! Can you tell what it is, how bad it is, and what we should do?

In a situation such as yours my best guess is that these branches simply died. Then, not unexpectedly, fungus started to grow on them. The rest of the tree looks reasonably healthy. But to be on the safe side I would suggest that you have a professional arborist come to your property and look at the tree. The following may be of interest to you:
