Beech tree disease #479535

Asked August 20, 2018, 10:48 AM EDT

Hello, I was wondering if this beech tree disease can be treated or if I will need to call an arborist. The tree is probably 50 years old and is in our backyard very within 20 feet of our home. The disease looks like it is limited to the base on the Northwest side. I'm concerned that it is already too late and the tree may need to be removed. Thank you, Sarah

Expert Response

We highly recommend that you consult an arborist about this tree. The physical injury looks substantial and it looks like there might be a decay fungus developing. You can find a certified arborist near you by using the "Find an Arborist" feature on the website of the International Society of Arboriculture. http://www.treesaregood.org/
