Very concerned to see what looks like may be a gypsy moth tent on the end of a branch on my northern oak tree at the curb. Just yesterday driving in the gorge I saw a HUGE infestation of the same thing on all the trees lining I-84.
This tree is essential to our home. What can I do about the tent? Will it spread and destroy my tree? Please inform me ASAP what steps I should take, if any. Thanks.

Thank you for including the images as they clearly show that the insects are not gypsy moths. They are fall webworms.
Fall webworms are periodic pests of trees which seldom adversely affect the tree's health. The only time the might be a problem is when they remove all the leaves from a new tree.
The management choices include these:
- Ignore the problem; the tree will survive.
- Disrupt the web by tearing it apart so that the birds can feast.
- If the webbing is within reach, cut off that portion of the branch and either burn it (if it's safe to do) or crush it.
