Early Ready Apples #476790

Asked August 08, 2018, 3:57 PM EDT

We purchased a home in Burleigh County NW of Bismarck last summer and were very surprised how early the apples were ready. This year, the apples began turning pink/red in July and are nearly all blushed, many are falling on the ground, and are sweet and ready to eat right now in early August. What variety of apples might this be and what are they good for? All the apples I've known in my life are ready in the fall and often aren't sweet until after a frost. The flesh of this apple is soft (gets mushy fast actually) and sweet and the outside is yellow and red.

Burleigh County North Dakota

Expert Response

It could be State Fair or Macintosh apple trees. Both of those ripen early and fit the description.
