Fly infestation #476556

I have a ton of what I think are hoverflies taking over the yard. They're everywhere, and appeared suddenly over the last week, week and a half or so. I'm wondering of this in fact what they are, and what I can do to get rid of them as they're obnoxiously annoying.

Hi,

I can't make out what kind of flies those are from the photo.  You can send some to me if you like.  If they are hover flies, there is not much that can be done to rid your yard of them.

To preserve and protect fragile specimens, it’s always best to submit insects in a small leak proof vial filled with rubbing alcohol or vinegar (the postal service prefers you send them in vinegar).  Place the vial in a small zip-lock baggie, then in a small box or mailing tube and mail to
