Insects (?) Eating Peach Fruit #468429

Asked July 07, 2018, 7:44 PM EDT

Something has been eating my  peaches. Here's a photo of the damage. I saw ants and also a true bug while I was thinning them. What are they and how should I treat the tree?

Expert Response

Thank you for your question. The Extension Agent suggested squirrels might be eating your peaches.  When I look at pictures on the internet (fruit eaten by squirrels), the patter is very similar.  See below - information about ways to protect your trees from squirrel damage.  Also, if you have bird feeders in your yard you may wish to consider removing them temporarily.
