Ash tree leaf drop #467438

Asked July 03, 2018, 1:57 PM EDT

Greetings.  I have what I thought was a healthy & established (20+years) Ash tree.  After the 100+ temp last week it started to loose leaves.  This has continued daily since.  Not necessarily individual leaves, but entire clusters.  I don't see any insects on the fallen leaves or on the tree.

Expert Response

Hello,
Many trees go through mid-summer leaf drop when temperatures soar. During a cool moist spring they put on more growth than the roots can keep up with (water uptake) later in summer when it gets hot. If you observe other symptoms, let me know, or bring in a sample to the Jeffco Plant Diagnostic Clinic ($7 fee for Jeffco residents) located at the Jeffco fairgrounds.
