Sick tree? #465538

Not sure what is wrong with our tree all of a sudden, one side is droopy? We live in Pine Hollow, near Wamic.Droopy side is east side of tree. Woodpecker has been pecking on tree for several years. What should we do? Thx!

Looking at your photos, the bottom of the trunk seems to indicate a combination of insects such as the flat headed borer or engraver beetles (hence the woodpeckers) and some disease such as Armilleria root disease or stem canker problems. Trees have a way of ignoring the odds and surviving but it looks to me like it's odds aren't great. But it's alive so give it the benefit of the doubt - give it regular, deep watering and maybe some nitrogen fertilizer and see what happens. If it dies then at least you gave it your best shot.
