Is this a yellow jacket nest? #465299

Asked June 25, 2018, 4:18 PM EDT

I committed mass murder yesterday on these unsuspecting bees. I would have left them alone, but they were using a rolled up hammock to house their nest and they were stinging my dogs when they used their dog door.. I would have said yellow jackets but I have never seen them build a nest - mostly because I've only ever encountered them in the ground. Also, after I unrolled the hammock, one of them was huge. Queen? I would have taken a photo but by the time I got to it today, the ants had carried away the body. So was I right? Yellow jackets? Photo of nest and small dead bodies attached. Many thanks.

Expert Response

Thanks for the answer. I had never seen a queen before and was confused by how large she was.
