Yellowing herb leaves in garden #464490

Asked June 22, 2018, 11:40 AM EDT

The herbs in my garden have yellowing leaves and generally look bad, especially my basil. I'm concerned that it may be fusarium wilt. In the past these symptoms didn't appear until August. Could it be a pH issue? I used to compost silver maple leaves, but noticed black tar spot on the leaves and discontinued that 2 years ago. What do recommend?

Expert Response

Your basil may need a little nitrogen. Nitrogen is a mobile nutrient that moves through soil and therefore we need to replenish it. We have had so much rain lately that any nitrogen in the soil is probably gone. Fertilize using a 5-10-5 fertilizer accoridng to the the label instructions.
