Why do the leaves on my Thundercloud Plum tree have holes in them? Is there any insecticide I should use?

Expert Response

Hello,

I cannot tell what made the holes in the trees leaves. Scout the tree and leaves to see if you find any insects. Once an insect is identified, an appropriate insecticide may be used.
In CT, we have a lot of gypsy moth caterpillars feeding on leaves. If you have had hail in the area, falling ice crystals can also make holes in leaves. There is also a few leaf spot diseases which will cause leaf damage that eventually can leave a hole in leaves. I suspect an insect.
