Hydrangea disease #463814

Asked June 20, 2018, 8:00 AM EDT

Hi,
Can you identify the cause of the brown discoloration on my hydrangeas?  I had the same issues last year.  The hydrangea in the photo gets mostly sun and it was been a wet spring.  Thanks

Expert Response

This does not look like a disease.  This has been a cool wet spring and then we went into some very hot days.  This looks like a leaf scorch. Also, the shrub may have possible root issues from too much moisture.  Big leaf hydrangeas grow best in morning sun and afternoon shade.   Simply monitor the growth of the shrub and monitor for additional symptoms.  You will have to pay attention to watering during dry periods.
