Are Crimson Sentry Maple Acer platanoides recommended for our geographic location as they are prone to powdery mildew. I am considering adding several of these to my landscape. If they are recommended are ther any recommendations to ensure success.

Butler County Ohio

Expert Response

Hello,

The Norway Maple or Acer platanoides can be planted in this area but could have some issues with verticillium wilt and anthracnose. It struggles with high humidity common to SW Ohio summers. The Norway Maple, a non-native, has been found to be invasive in the U.S.
Please read the articles below about the care and characteristics of Acer platanoides. Also, you might contact your OSU Extension agent office for Butler County about this tree. He or she may be able to give you advice about this tree's performance in your area.
Thanks for asking Ask an Expert.
