Asked June 07, 2018, 2:02 PM EDT

I have a mature birch with evidence of borers - rows of small hole in the bark. Otherwise ot appears to be in good condition. Is thera treatment for the borers so I do not loose the tree? Thanks

Expert Response

The damage on your birch tree appears to be sapsucker damage. Sapsucker feeding is a common problem on birch trees. The regular pattern of rows and columns of feeding holes is typical of sapsucker damage. Birch borers are also a common problem and it is possible you have those in other parts of your tree. Borers typically produce fewer, more randomly distributed bore holes.
