Holes in my bush bean leaves #455561

Asked May 21, 2018, 12:03 PM EDT

Hello! I am new at growing bush beans and after all the rain last week, I now notice my bush bean plant leaves have small round holes developing in all the leaves. I noticed small brownish"ladybug-like" beetles sitting on the stems this morning. What can I do to rid my plants of these bug? Thank you!

Expert Response

There are several beetles that cause minor feeding injury this time of years to bean plants (oriental beetle, bean leaf beetle). Bean plants can take 20-30% defoliation without causing a yield reduction.

We cannot identify the insect because the photo is poor. Please visit our vegetable plant problems page and look at the entries for Mexican bean beetle and spotted cucumber beetle.
