Milkweed mottled yellow/green leaves #454149

Asked May 15, 2018, 11:49 AM EDT

Most of the milkweed in my yard is healthy, but last year a bunch popped up with mottled yellow and green leaves. What’s happening and what should I do about it? I raise monarchs, and I want to do my best for them. Thank you!

It is possible that it could have aster yellows or a virus and should be removed. It looks a little like it is possible that it could have some herbicide damage. If that is not possible then I would just remove the plant and watch for any others and remove them if necessary. I don't think milk weed usually are prone to chlorosis but here is a link to info about that.http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/iron-chlorosis/ . Here is a link to a little more info. http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/flowers/aster-yellows/ . You might also consider a soil test. http://soiltest.cfans.umn.edu/
