Sick tree? #452696

Hello! I live in Rockville and have a dwarf maple that’s not looking so good since the weather warmed up this spring. It’s about 8 years old and has been happy until now. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to give it a boost. Thanks so much.

Your photos do show that your Japanese maple is declining. To give it a chance prune out the dead branches. Then give it a good, deep watering. Our weather has been on the dry side since the fall. Lay a hose at the base of the tree and let the water trickle so that the roots absorb the water instead of running off. Move the hose around periodically and let it run for at least 1/2 to 1 hour. Do this during any periods of hot, dry weather this summer. If it does not recover the tree should be replaced.
