Have just discovered many of these insects near my shrubs which I planned to dig out and replace and am wondering what they are, how do I control them, any danger involved, etc. I’ve attached two photos (one closeup) and what I saw one of them crawl into. Thank you!

While there is low picture resolution and lack of size info, it does appear to be a ground bee. See the following website:
