Invasive Plant Growing on My Lawn? #444879
Asked March 25, 2018, 6:39 PM EDT
Hi there,
I was wondering if this plant that has spread across my lawn is an invasive species, and if so, what I can do (organically) to get rid of it and eventually restore my lawn. See the attached photos.
Thanks! (Note: I replaced one of the images with one that included a quarter for scale.)

This is a common lawn weed known as speedwell or veronica: Take a look at it in our weed gallery.: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/lawns/lawn-weed-identification Click on it to get information on why it is growing in your lawn and how to control it.
Keep in mind that if your lawn is thin and less than 1/2 actual grass, it is less costly and more effective to start over. Early fall is the premier time to plant grass. Here's a good publication on successful lawn renovation: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/lawns/lawn-weed-identificationhttps://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG102-Rev-12-2017%20Lawn%20Establishment%20Renovation%20Overseeding.pdf
