Non-flowering cranberry bushes #426660

Asked September 13, 2017, 5:53 PM EDT

I have tow cranberry bushes planted next to a chainlink fence in the back yard. These bushes were purchased at Bachman's and are 3-4 years old but have never flowered or borne fruit. They are in an area that get sun mostly at mid-day. Are these the type that need both a male and female? Do you have an opinion on why they won't bear fruit? Thanks

Expert Response

Your shrubs do not need a male and female to bear fruit. It is probably that they are just not mature enough. They are not that big. You need to provide moisture and give them some fertilizer for blooming shrubs next year in the spring. Do not fertilize them now as the new growth would be damaged by winter temps.
