Tiny holes in apples #426258

Asked September 11, 2017, 4:56 PM EDT

Hi there, My apple tree has a pretty decent amount of apples this year but a lot of them have these tiny holes. I ate one the other day, after peeling it, and there were just very shallow brown spots beneath each hole. I've been looking around the Extension sites and various other ones but can't find a definitive answer as to what the holes are. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Expert Response

It looks like an insect tried to 'sting' (lay eggs) in your apples but for whatever reason the larvae did not develop.  Lucky you.
