Good Morning, I have a library patron who would like to know the name of this plant and common uses. Thanks Sue Vizecky Ivanhoe Public Library

Expert Response

There is too little information to identify this plant. Additional information needed such as a closeup picture of the leaf with a ruler or coin, a root structure attached, whether it is vining, how tall, where it was found such as forest, field or wetlands, whether there is any fruit or flower attached. About all I can say about it is that it has compound green leaves. Here is a link to Minnesota wildflowers that may be helpful in your search. https://www.minnesotawildflowers.info/

Here are a few more answers--my patron tells me it is growing in their garden and they planted it a few years ago, but don't remember what is it. He not sure if his wife bought it or got it from someone. It grows in full afternoon and about 2 ft tall. I have attached a few more pictures--hope it helps.

Thanks for the pictures. I think you have Commelina communis (Asiatic Dayflower). Here is a link describing it further. Note the maroon centers of the yellow stamens that distinguish it from other similar day flowers. https://www.minnesotawildflowers.info/flower/asiatic-dayflower
