Leaf disease of Sarah's Choice canteloupe #425365
Asked September 05, 2017, 7:15 PM EDT
Good morning, my favorite experts. For the first time in ages I planted canteloupe this year. I chose Sarah's Choice seeds from Johnny's Selected Seeds. Sarah's Choice is described as resistant to powdery mildew and fusarium wilt. The plants grew well. The fruit was delicious. But about three weeks ago spots began appearing on the leaves and last week the plants had a general and sudden collapse. I'll attach several photos for your evaluation. Any ideas of what the disease was--and what I might do to prevent it next year if I plant Sarah's Choice seeds again? Thank you. Bob Nixon, Clarksville ###

Hi Bob-
We think the symptoms you are seeing on the canteloupe foliage are probably due to downy mildew. Take a look at the following page on our website, which lists "12 tips" for managing this disease. https://extension.umd.edu/growit/downy-mildew-cucurbits-spinach-and-brassicas-vegetables
