My mountain ash is quite unwell. I've included photos of the trunk and leaves. I'm especially concerned about the exposed portion of the trunk where the bark is gone. Can you please advise me on how to save my tree?

Expert Response
It's possible that the tree is beyond recovery and should be removed. Here is a tool you can use to evaluate that possibility:

We suggest asking a certified arborist to evaluate the tree's health onsite and recommend a course of action.
Master gardeners are volunteers who do not provide on-site consultation at private homes as it competes with our industry partners.
A great resource for finding a local lawn and landscape professional is the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association website: http://www.mnla.biz. You can also find a certified arborist in your area through the International Society of Aboriculture: http://www.isa-arbor.com/findanarborist/arboristsearch.aspx
