Slime Mold weeping from Patriot Elm after pruning #422735

Asked August 22, 2017, 11:07 AM EDT

We have an Elm that is weeping some kind of fungal odor after a pruning by a professional arborist from Shady Oak Tree Service. The owner of the tree service recommended I contact the "U". The fungal sap is weeping from a crotch made by the pruning about 7 feet up from the base of the tree. Hope it doesn't kill our 8 year old elm.

Expert Response

The tree may have developed a condition called "wet wood." The following bulletin explains what caused this and what, if any, effect it may have on the tree's health.
