I'd like to know what type of tree this is. We thought at first it was a magnolia but most leaves are not shiny or leathery and the leaves do not drop like traditional Southern magnolias that I have seen before. Apparently it did not bloom this summer although it appears to have buds. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

From the photo, the tree looks like a saucer magnolia, Magnolia soulangiana. It will bloom in early spring unless the buds are damaged by frost.
