Late summer to early fall (mid August - mid October) is a good time to plant a cool season grass. However, Kentucky Blue grass is not recommended as it has a higher incidence of disease problems, is more sensitive to drought damage, and Japanese beetle grub feeding.

Turf type tall fescue is highly recommended for MD as it is the most drought tolerant and least prone to disease and insect problems. Tall fescue is considered a high qualtiy turfgrass for home lawns in full sun to part shade.
