Can you please identify this weed for me? Pics attached. I don't know what it is but it smells really really good. Thank you.

Expert Response

I cannot accurately ID this plant from the picture. If you could send closeups of the leaves and flowers I may be able to ID this plant. But I will say that from the height and the smelling good, this may be a plant called Sweet Annie (Artemisia annua) Sweet Annie is an annual with sweet smelling dissected leaves and is very seedy.  If you would like a more positive ID please send the requested pictures.  Or bring a sample to the extension office at 530 W. Spring St., Columbus, OH.

Thank you. I have grown Sweet Annie before. I love Sweet Annie but this weed is not Sweet Annie. The flowers are what are fragrant in this plant. Not the foliage as in Sweet Annie. The flower resembles hollyhock or hibiscus. What else could it be? Thank you.

This a mallow of some kind. In looking up the mallow family, this stands out as a possibility - Abelmoschus moschatus/musk mallow; you can further check this at the website http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=a556

If you don't think this is it, please send more information about flower size and color, and shape of the seed pods.
