I've purchased cherry ground tomatillo that suppose to be yellow and taste like pineapple. I was quite excited when seeds took off and I got two large bushes covered in tiny green tomatoes. However, I was a little puzzles because I could see no shells on these green tomatillos. Some berries finally ripened, they turned black not yellow and sweet tasting. However, I can't find anything like it online and now I worry that these are poisonous. It looks more like black nightshade not the seed I've ordered. What do you think? Can I eat these? Thanks.

I believe the plant you have in your garden is Black Nightshade. It is a member of the Solanaceae family like tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, poison nightshade, etc. The foliage and plant parts are poisonous in members of this family , but the fruits vary in their toxicity. The above references provide some information on the Black Nightshade plant and its toxicity. I would not recommend eating the berries of this plant due to the likely toxicity of the fruits.
