Expert Response

There are two plants in the picture that are blooming.  Which are you not familiar with?  The blue is a type of forget me not.  The other I need to know a little more information.  Where in Alaska is this plant located, and is it a planted ornamental or a new weed/volunteer?

The pink bottle-brush type flower and large leaves "clasping" the stem indicate this is one of the Persicaria bistorta. The type often grown in gardens is Persicaria bistorta 'Superba'. Here is information from the Missouri Botanical Garden: http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=252584&isprofile=0&
I found a wildflower page online, indicating there are some native wildflowers of this plant: http://www.alaskawildflowers.us/Kingdom/Plantae/Magnoliophyta/Magnoliopsida/Polygonaceae/Polygonum_bistorta/index.html
