Cherry tree looks sick #414041

Asked July 13, 2017, 5:24 PM EDT

I have a sour cherry tree that is at least 9 years old. It was present and mature when I bought my house 8 1/2 years ago. This year a lot of the branches have died and I noticed the leaves have a white film or powder on the top and when they die they turn brownish yellow and curl up before falling off. I also noticed that there is a red colored sticky substance coming from some of the branches and one spot on the trunk. I have included a few pics also. Please let me know if you think I can treat the tree or if it is best to just take it down. Thanks Erin.
