Neonicotinoids #413223

Asked July 10, 2017, 4:42 PM EDT

How can I find out if the Black Eyed Susans I received as a gift were treated with neonicotinoids? They came from BloomIQ.org. When I went to their website there were no FAQ or Contact Us. They came from somewhere in White Marsh, MD. I understand neonicotinoids will be banned in Maryland, but that may not be in effect yet. Any information you can provide will be helpful.

Expert Response

As far as we can tell, BloomIQ.org is not a grower, but a website that helps people choose or identify plants.
Without knowing the grower or origin, there is no way to know if they were treated with pesticides. We don't know if this is a plant that is treated, but Black Eyed Susans don't generally have a lot of pests, so they may not be.
Either way, it doesn't stay in the plant forever.
