Beetle infection on blue spruce? #412429

Asked July 07, 2017, 11:46 AM EDT

It appears there's a beetle problem on my blue spruce.  It's caused stunted growth, distortion, and dead limbs.  I actually like that the trees are diminutive given their age, and a more interesting shape.  I don't want to lose the trees, however.  And the dead limbs have to be trimmed off.  What would you recommend to eliminate the pest?

Thank you for your question.  Unfortunately, there is no chemical solution once a tree has been infested with the Ips beetle.
The symptoms you describe are not exactly the same as those described in the information provided via the link.  If, after reading the information, you think perhaps Ips beetles are not the problem I recommend you look for add'l symptoms and re-send your question with those details.

The second link discusses Cytospora canker.  Might the symptoms you see be Cytospora canker??
