Male Mulberry tree ? #408343

Asked June 19, 2017, 7:50 PM EDT

We have a volunteer Red Mulberry tree that stands 20 ft tall, and is app. 7-8 years old. It has never fruited. Could it be a male tree? Or if not, should we give it more time to mature? I'm attaching pictures of the tree and its leaves.
Thank you,

Expert Response

When I researched I found that mulberry trees can take up to 10 years to bear fruit. I also found there are trees that never produce fruit based on being monoecious (only flowers of one sex and requires cross pollination). Mulberries purchased for fruit production are dioecious and pollinate within one tree.
