identify insect #406893

Asked June 13, 2017, 8:04 PM EDT

I found a lot of very small red insects ( i/4 inch or less) wandering amongst some very low lying evergreen ground cover. I have attached here a magnified photo of one that i captured in a small jar. Can you identify It?

Expert Response

Your photo is of the underside of the insect. Seeing the other side would be very helpful. If could possibly be four-lined plant bug: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/insect/garden/beetles/small/flplantbug-nymph.html

It also could be a boxelder bug nymph (juvenile).  They will not cause any damage.
