Invasive viney weed #406096

Asked June 10, 2017, 4:37 PM EDT

I have an invasive viney weed on my 13 acre property that seems to be taking over and spreading a lot! Can anyone tell me what it is and what I should do about it?

Expert Response

The plant in the photos appears to be Galium aparine. Common names include cleavers, catchweed bedstraw, and stickywilly.   Galium aparine is an annual weed. In gardens and landscape beds, hoeing and hand pulling are the best control options. It’s imperative to destroy the plants before they are able to flower and produce seeds.
