I'm helping my dad out; for some reason, his picture wouldn't attach to his question. He has this weed growing and has tried different weed killers. They kill it, but it just comes back. Can you identify the weed and suggest something to eradicate it from his yard? Thank you!

Hello there. If you could answer a few question for me it would be most helpful. I couldn't tell in the picture, but are the stems square or round and are the stems hairy?
When you tried to get rid of this did you spray with a weed killer or pull the weeds out by hand?
Thank you for answering these questions for me.
Hello Vicki:
To answer your question - the stems are round and smooth, not hairy. I have tried to pull it on occasion but the soil is usually firm enough that the stems break off without getting the roots. I have sprayed it several times with both weed be gone and trimec and both will kill it but it comes back.

I believe that your weed might be one of the many types of Chickweed. It's described by Scotts as a delicate lowgrowing plant with two (to three occasionally) leaves and small white flowers sprouting directly from the stem of the plant at the base of the leaves. This as well as other weeds in the lawn can be controlled with a combination of weed control and pre-emergent such as an advanced weed control that wont kill your grass in the offing. Make sure to read the label when using around cherished plants. The pre-emergent is important as these weeds are vigorous re seeders.
