Backyard Egg in Mulch Pile - Help :) #397782

Asked May 04, 2017, 2:00 PM EDT

Hello- My wife was moving a mulch pile this afternoon in the backyard and uncovered a large single egg. The egg is about twice the size of a chicken egg. She says that it has a hard shell and seems hollow. She says it does not seem palpable or leathery. We live in Columbia, have a 0.3 acre lot, storm water pond behind us, and two terriers that roam our backyard. Going to attach a picture. We covered the egg back up with mulch. If it is a reptile, I would like to try and protect it with a wire mesh. However, if it is just a Canadian Goose egg or something, I am more inclined to let nature take it's course. Thanks in advance!

Expert Response

We submitted your photo to our reptile expert. This is more likely a goose or duck egg than a reptile egg, given the size of it.
