Last week, an odd orange growth dotted an old evergreen tree in my yard. The growth appears to be growing out of a nut or pine cone. The growth has many tentacles each about 1.5 inches long. The texture is rubbery. In 18 years living here, I have never seen this. No pesticides have been used in the area. The tree is not a long needle pine. It's in an overgrown area at the end of my yard, crowded by other bushes and trees. What is this? What should I do to get rid of this?
