What types of nut trees or cold weather plants do you think would do well in the Alamosa, Colorado area?

This depends on a lot of things.  There is a reason not many nut and fruit trees are growing in the Alamosa area, its a tough location to actually produce.  Additionally, we have to be careful to not bring in species that may harbor pest insects for important agricultural crops.  Here is some info on that:

If you are looking for some plants to have around the house, you could greatly benefit by taking advantage of the protection offered by structures.  Consulting with local nurseries would be a great option and talking to other experts in the area would be helpful.
