What insect is this? #380829

Asked December 31, 2016, 11:10 AM EST

Hi: in my house this insect is quite common. Apparently it likes humid places. The insect crawls up the walls and affixes to it or hanging from flat top surfaces. In the picture, what you see is the cocoon and there's a worm inside which may exit from either end of the cocoon. Maybe I could take a video of it crawling. The size of the cocoon varies in size as shown. I live in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. Many thanks for your help.

Expert Response

This seems to be one of the moth that are common in houses, either feeding on fabrics and other materials or chewing on plaster.  If you house has a moisture problem. fix that because that may allow this insects id continue to live in.  Check for any materials that mat have been damaged (chewed) and try to eliminate the sources by bagging them
