Sesame Seed-sized bugs. What are they? #375471

Asked November 06, 2016, 12:25 PM EST

They have been doing major construction, clearing fields, building houses, and roads all around us.  I think they've stirred up a few nests.  We are off of the 287 bypass and County Road 17

We have no idea what these bugs are.  They appeared by the thousands on Thursday.  My husband used a pesticide on them, and it is helping.

Does anyone know what they are?

Expert Response

Some kind of seed bug (Lygaidae family), very likely the one called false chinch bug http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/false-chinch-bugs-5-603-2/  although there are many types of seed bugs that occasionally become very abundant.

They are harmless to humans, other than being a minor annoyance, and live by feeding on plant fluids, usually from flowers and developing seeds.  They can not bite humans.

V seed bugs
