Viburnum odoratissimum leaves with brown spots #375123

Asked November 05, 2016, 4:17 AM EDT

Hello My Viburnum odoratissimum leaves have brown spots. Also the leaves of the plant are light green. I have attached a photograph. What causes the brown spots and how do I solve the problem? I am located in Melbourne Australia and we have just into spring. Thanks and Regards.

Thank you for your question.  The problem you're having would appear to be one of a fungal leaf spot, a bacterial leaf spot or a rust.  I've attached photos of the three possibilities, in the same order as I just mentioned.  (I can't see the underside of the leaves to rule out rust--the 3rd photo--but that seems unlikely.)   Hopefully, you can compare them a bit closer that can I.  The light green is probably a secondary issue to the plant's ability to photosynthesize, resulting in chlorosis (lack of chlorophyll.)

Here's a link to a Clemson article on the various problems that viburnum plants can have, and the prevention/treatment options available.

Hope this is helpful.
