I have a pin oak, well over 100years old, that now has to be taken down as a preventative measure. Tree trimmer estimates its diameter as 60-80DBH. Am really hoping to find someone willing to buy this for logs/lumber. How do I locate someone?

Expert Response

The USDA Forest Service has an article which provides an overview: http://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/econ/timberprices/answers.html
The Ohio DNR also provides information:  https://forestry.ohiodnr.gov/portals/forestry/pdfs/industry/sellingtimber.pdf.
OSU Extension advises:  http://callb4ucut.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2016/02/Getting-the-Most-Return-From-Your-Timber-Sale.pdf.
Unfortunately, most of the information is not oriented toward a single tree.

In addition to any recommendations from your tree trimmer, you may contact the ODNR Division of Forestry office for Region 1 (http://callb4ucut.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2016/02/Getting-the-Most-Return-From-Your-Timber-Sale.pdf) and/or the Franklin County office of OSU Extension<personal data hidden>).

I hope this helps.
