My Harrison Cider Apple tree has a hole and has what looks like orange foam coming out of it. I originally though some sort of gummosis but it is not sticky. It is hard and crumbly. The top inch or so of the tree has since died and it has sprung a new growth from just below that. On my other apple tree, which is a Smokehouse variety, there is a white growth near the base below the graft line. It is firmly attached and does not seem to scrape off.
