Purple Varigated Beech tree #368953

Asked October 09, 2016, 7:00 PM EDT

How can I find this tree? It is zone four. I've purchased one before at a previous home and I can't find anything local other than seedlings online. Fagus sylvatica ' Purpurea Tricolor ' Deep Purple Variegated Beech. Can you help?

Anoka County Minnesota

Expert Response

You probably cannot find it as it is listed as a Zone 5 tree and reputable nurseries/garden centers do not carry trees listed as out of their zone. I have worked for garden centers for 12 years and we have never carried that tree.   Here is the information from Ohio State: http://hvp.osu.edu/pocketgardener/source/description/fa_atica.html

I've purchased this in MN.  I sold the house this tree is at.  It is a zone 4.

Sorry.

I am sorry but I do not know where the tree you had was purchased.  I cannot find any sources in Minnesota.
