Fruit tree pest advice? #367790
Asked October 04, 2016, 3:03 PM EDT
I have 9 young fruit trees in a field at my camp in Greene Co. (apple, pear, cherry, and peach, from 3 to 8 years old) Several weeks ago I arrived to see that every tree had several branches that were brown/dead. I was puzzled, but didn't look closely at the branches until recently. The dead and dying branches seem to have a series of eruptions though the bark, as I've tried to capture in the attached photos. I was hoping that the likely culprit could be IDed, along with a remedy. Any help is much appreciated!

Could that be damage from the periodical cicada? It was southeast PA's turn this year. Penn State has a nice fact sheet on this at http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/periodical-cicada
