Spindle palm releasing smelly gums/resins #367668

Asked October 04, 2016, 12:30 AM EDT

Dear Sir,
I have a spindle palm which is releasing smelly gums/resins and day by day it seems as it is dying. I have closed its water from couple of days. Need your opinion.

Expert Response

I am assuming since something is leaking from the palm, there is an injury on the trunk for the sap to leak out. Sap is mainly sugar. Fungus and bacteria is attracted to the sugar. Since you said the smell is not pleasant this could indicate a bacteria. There are bactericides to tree trees but this requires special equipment. Check with a local arborist or palm expert.
